Solidarity not Charity
The pandemic brought a revival of mutual aid organising, with roots going back to anarchism and early communism. In this session we will hear from organisations who worked on the front line during the height of the crisis to provide food and meet basic needs, and discuss the challenges and opportunities of organising in solidarity and not charity, and how we can build lasting institutions.
Louise Delmege has been working in mutual aid based food and community organisations for the last 5 years. During the lockdown she was one of a small team who delivered over 40,000 free meals across Bristol. She is a director of National Food Service Bristol and a lead organiser of the National Food Service Network.
Shauna is an organiser for Cooperation town, a network of community-led food co-ops, organising on streets and estates across the country.
Iain Chambers is community projects manager at The Bevy, an award-winning community pub in Moulsecoomb owned by local shareholders, and founder of Brighton Food Factory.
